KiHa 110 series

Introducing

The KiHa 100 and 110 series (キハ100・110系) are diesel multiple unit (DMU) trains operated since 1990 by East Japan Railway Company (JR East) on non-electrified rural lines in Japan.

A total of 247 vehicles were built between 1989 and 1999 by Fuji Heavy Industries and Niigata Transys.

At top right is the TIMS screen (potentially hidden), along with the ATS-P indicator lights.

On the far left is the station list and station numbers.

The leftmost part of the console contains switches and LEDs for ventilation:

  • Ventilation (換気)
  • Dehumidification (除湿)
  • Cooling (冷房)
  • Heating (暖房)

On the right, we have the safety radio equipment and some switches.

The most interesting part, in our case, is the central section. First we have a series of indicators. The top line contains the following indicators:

  • ATS (Yellow) : lights up when the ATS is switched on.
  • ATS (Red) : lights up when an ATS alarm is triggered and flashes when the emergency brake is applied.
  • Moteur (機) : lights up when the engines are running.
  • ↑ / ↓ : direction of travel.
  • Conduite (運転) : lights up when the clutch is engaged.
  • PC anormal (PC異常) : lights up when the programmable controller is not working properly.
  • Limitation vitesse 1 : (抑速1) : lights up when engine brake is applied.
  • Limitation vitesse 2 (抑速2) : lights up when the holding brake is applied.
  • Frein adapté à la neige (耐雪) : lights up when the snow brake is activated.
  • En maintenance (点検中)
  • EB : lights up when a vigilance system alarm occurs.

The second line contains the following indicators:

  • Emergency short circuit (非常短絡)
  • Safety brakes (直通予備)
  • Abnormal water temperature (水温異常)
  • Abnormal oil temperature (油温異常)
  • Abnormal exhaust temperature (排気温異常)
  • Fire (火災)

Finally, we have the following items:

  • Speedometer
  • Door closing indicator
  • Pocket watch
  • Brake cylinder pressure (black arrow) and air reservoir pressure (red arrow)
  • Emergency stop
